Student Visas
Australia encourages international students to study in Australia. If you wish to study a registered course at an Australian Educational Institution you will require a student visa. Visas are categorized according to the level of study an applicant wishes to undertake e.g. whether secondary school, higher education, etc.
In order to be granted a visa applicants must meet assessment levels determined by the Department of Immigration as applicable to their nationality and study level. Each assessment level is contained in a Country Assessment Levels table.
These assessment levels have been determined by the government according to statistics on students from different countries.
In order to be granted a student visa you must provide evidence, which satisfies the Department of Immigration that you meet the Assessment factors.
These assessment factors include your financial ability, English proficiency, likely compliance with the conditions of your visa and any other matters relevant to assessing your application.
Before the Department of Immigration can grant you a Student visa you must show that you can pay for your living and study costs while you are in Australia.
If you have a spouse or dependent children you must also show that you can support them, even if they will not be accompanying you to Australia.
Different assessment levels require different evidence and therefore the evidence you must provide depends on your education sector and your nationality.
